Building an online business can be intimidating especially when you have no clear path to follow.
This article will go through 4 simple steps to show you exactly how to build an online business for moms.
The best part?
You don’t need to create or ship a product, and you don’t have to invest thousands of dollars in inventory.
All you need is to organize your knowledge or experience and get paid to share it with the audience online. You can turn anything you are good at into a super-profitable online business.
Want to learn, how?
Let’s get started.

Step#1: Finding Your Target Audience
The first step in creating your online business is to find your target audience.
These are your potential customers who might be interested in your expertise or specialized knowledge.
From cooking to costume design, from time management to weight loss, from knitting to home decor, you can sell your knowledge or expertise to the people interested in learning it.
For that transaction to happen, you only need one thing…
You have to be a few chapters ahead of others to be able to teach them. This can’t be simpler.
So basically, there are four questions that you need to answer to find your target audience. Here they are:
The first question you have to ask yourself is, who do I actually want to work with?
Most of us start with a product idea, never thinking about who we will want as clients, customers, vendors, and associates.
But these are the people you will be interacting with day in and day out.
You will probably spend more time with these people than your own friends and family.
You choose your significant other carefully, so why wouldn’t you take the same time and care in deciding who your dream client or customer will be?
A couple of questions might help you to answer Who:
Who are my dream clients?
What do they look like?
What are they passionate about?
What are their goals, dreams, and desires?
Answering these questions will help you find who your dream client is.
The next question is, where can you find this ideal man or woman?
Where do they hang out online? Are there on Facebook or Instagram? What groups are there a part of? What email newsletters do they subscribe to? What blogs do they read? Are there reading The New York Times Or The Huffington Post?
What other interests do they have? Do they like sports or the arts? How about fishing or racing cars? If you don’t know who, it will be hard to find out where your perfect customers can be found.
So be sure you know exactly who you are trying to attract. Just write down a few places you think the prospect might hang out online.
Once we know where the dream customers are, we have to create the right bait to attract them.
Your bait could be a physical book, a CD, DVD, or an audio recording – anything that your dream customer would pay attention to and want.
When you find out what your dream clients want, it becomes very easy to attract them.
Throughout this process, we are going to talk more about creating the right bait. Right now, just understand the bait has to match what your dream customer wants.
Once you’ve hooked your dream customers with the perfect bait, the last question is, what result do you want to give them?
I am not talking about what product or service you want to sell them.
A business is not about products and services. A business is about what result you can get for your clients.
Once you (and they) understand that concept, then the price is no longer a barrier.
Step#2: Creating The Value Ladder
One of the first things that you need to do is to learn the concept of a value ladder.
A value ladder is essentially the range of services that you offer to your customers ranging from a low level, low-cost services up to high level, high-cost services that you offer.
The concept is really simple. Not every customer can afford a high-quality service or product. That is why you should have a range of services to cater to every kind of customer that comes to your online shop or store.
Here is what a value ladder looks like,
If you look at this picture, you will see that on the left-hand axis we have value, and on the bottom axis we show the price.
Now, on the top right-hand corner of this graph, you will see the big $ sign. This is where you want to take your client. This is where you can provide them the most value and also charge them the most.
Bait is something that you can give away for free to your customers and provide them value. Once they have received value from you in the form of a free gift, then they will naturally want more.
They will want to ascend your value ladder and see if there are other ways you can provide value to them.
So, building an effective value leader is crucial to building a thriving online business that not only makes you money but also provides more value to your customers and builds your brand authority.
Step#3: Building A Simple Funnel
Classical Bridge Funnel
A funnel is a step-by-step process that your audience follows and ends up taking the taking that you want them to take.
WordPress is my recommended way to start a blog or website, because it’s cheap, customizable and beginner-friendly.
Here is the link to BlueHost hosting for creating a self-hosted WordPress website.
Here is what a classical 2-Page bridge funnel looks like:
You bring traffic (visitors) to your Opt-in Page. Here you give them a free gift, that is called a lead magnet, in exchange for their email.
The lead magnet can be a free pdf e-book, video training, or a cheat sheet; anything that’s of some value to your website visitors.
Then, you take them to the bridge page, where you talk about in a little detail about the big problem (they want a solution for), the solution (the affiliate offer), and ask them to click the button on the page to get more information about the product (the affiliate offer) on the next page.
The bridge page may or may not include a bridge video.
The next page is the sales page created and hosted by the owner of the affiliate offer. They will do the selling, fulfillment, transaction, customer support, etc.
Email Follow Up:
Building an email list is the difference between a long-term business and a business on chance. Your email list is the most important asset of your affiliate marketing business.
Money is in the list.
I recommend and use ActiveCampaign for building my list and building a faithful audience for my affiliate marketing business.
The opt-in page has one purpose only: capture the email address of the webpage visitor.
Basically, you will offer something of great value or actionable to the visitor to get their email in exchange.
Not everyone is going to buy your offer the first time. So, you can automatically start sending them follow-up emails (to the email you captured on the Opt-in page) using email autoresponder software.
You should provide them value first, and pitch different offers every couple of weeks or days that help them with their problem.
Step#4: Bring Targeted Traffic
In online marketing, traffic refers to the visitors that come to your website, online store, social media account, or any online platform.
Targeted traffic means attracting the right people who are genuinely interested in your stuff whether it be some insightful information, a product, training, or just some motivational videos.
It is hard to say that, even in the online marketing space, these are the people who buy your stuff. You need to attract the right people to your website or online store if you want to make money.
There are two types of traffic: organic traffic and inorganic traffic.
Organic traffic refers to the free traffic that you don’t pay for. Inorganic traffic refers to the paid traffic that you pay for.
The best traffic sources are Google, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok. There are other sources as well but I like these four the most.
To be able to bring the targeted traffic to your blog or online store, you need to create content. For that, you have to pick one of these traffic sources in the beginning.
And you have to consider your strengths and weaknesses in this phase. If you are confident to face the camera, then you can start with YouTube or TikTok.
But if you are an introvert like me and don’t want to film yourself on camera, and love writing instead, then you can start your own blog and choose Google or Pinterest for your traffic sources.
